Our casting clinics allow beginners to learn the basic skills of fly casting or sharpen existing ones on the front lawn of the resort.

We offer a cast and blast package’ which includes a half day of fly fishing and a half day of shooting at the Chetola Sporting Reserve. We also offer a ‘Learn to Fly Fish’ package which entails a detailed casting clinic followed by a trip to the river to put your newly-acquired skills to the test.

Yes! Don’t let colder air or precipitation stop you. Late fall, winter, and early spring are considered some of the best times for fly fishing.

• We require payment in full at the time of booking and observe a 30-day cancellation policy for all Fly Fishing Adventures
• For all Fly-Fishing Adventures, we require 100% of the trip total at the time of booking.
• Cancellations made 31 or more days in advance will receive a full refund with no penalty.
• Cancellations made within 30 days of the trip date will result in a 50% forfeiture of the trip total to compensate guides for lost work days.
• Trips canceled within 48 hours or in the event of a no-show will forfeit 100% of the trip total.
• Only your guide or the Fly Fishing Manager may reschedule a trip within 30 days of the scheduled date. We strongly recommend purchasing travel or vacation insurance to protect your investment in the event of unexpected changes.

Yes. All fly fishing trips require a valid fishing license. Due to the chance of inclement weather as well as trip location, we strongly recommend purchasing your license upon speaking to your fishing guide the day before your trip. Licenses may be purchased online with the whole process taking no more than a few minutes.

Yes! When booking a fishing trip with overnight accommodations, special value pricing is available for rooms at Chetola Lodge or The Bob Timberlake Inn.

Group size depends on your selected trip (wade or float). We recommend a 2:1 guest-to-guide ratio. With advance notice, we can accommodate groups of up to 30.

We provide all gear—rods, flies, waders, and nets. We recommend dressing for the weather and bringing a raincoat and sunglasses for eye protection. A fully stocked Fly Shop is also located on the property.

Located in a temperate rainforest, the area can be wet year-round. Wear flexible, layered clothing—sweats, tees, flannels, and a rain jacket. We provide Orvis waders to wear over your clothing. Check the weather for Boone or Blowing Rock before packing.

Unless otherwise arranged, meet your guide at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. Guides aim to meet you at the most convenient location for your trip.

Yes. Our private water section as well as Chetola Lake are both handicapped accessible and entail just a short walk.

Gratuity isn’t included, but is appreciated. A tip of 20% is customary if your guide exceeds expectations.

Absolutely. While we can’t guarantee all requests, we’ll do our best to honor them. We reserve the right to change guides based on requests, trip needs, illness, or emergencies.

• Our guides are prepared to accommodate guests in a variety of weather conditions. However, we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule any trip if conditions are deemed unsafe.
• Trips are not routinely canceled due to rain or snow, and we provide all necessary equipment to ensure your comfort.
• If a trip must be canceled due to unsafe weather and cannot be rescheduled, guests will receive a full refund.
• Please dress appropriately for mountain weather, including layers, a raincoat, and protective eyewear. We also have a Fly Shop on-site for your convenience.

• Indoor restrooms are not guaranteed at fishing locations. Please inform us in advance if specific accommodations are needed so we can plan accordingly.
• We are proud to offer handi-accessible options and encourage all guests to communicate any physical, medical, or mental health needs when booking. This includes mobility equipment, prosthetics, joint replacements, PTSD, or other considerations that help us provide the best possible experience.
• Only anglers are charged for fishing. Friends or family members are welcome to accompany and observe at no charge. However, if an observer chooses to fish at any point, the full trip price will be applied.

• All guests are expected to utilize their own means of transportation, however guests may ride with their guide if absolutely necessary. For groups, van rental pricing is available upon request.
• All full-day (8-hour) trips include a complimentary deli lunch and refreshments.
• You are welcome to bring your own snacks, drinks, and any necessary personal items or prescriptions.

• Fly fishing trip prices do not include a fishing license or gratuity.
• Casting Clinics and group activities held at Chetola Lake or on the property do not require a fishing license.
• A fishing license may be purchased the day of your trip ($15–$45, depending on residency and fishing location). Please wait until your guide confirms the location before purchasing, as weather may require a change.
